Black bloggers have been discussing Matt Drudge's attempts to start a race war for weeks, now Peoria plays into his hands...

I tried to go to Peoria Chronicle and couldn't get on. I went to Peoria Anti-Pundit and I noticed that more Fox News types are signing on. As a matter of fact, they have referenced a link to a Fox News report about a white man allegedly attacked by a person with "cornrows".

A commenter named "Shay" left a comment here that Peoria Chronicle has been linked via Drudge report for the article about black folks in Peoria wanting to "kill all the white people".
Shay said...
Hi Em! Peoria Chronicle website has been shutdown for last few hours probably due to amount of hits. You see it is now linked via Drudge report.com front and center under the headline: PANDEMONIUM IN PEORIA: MOB YELLS 'KILL ALL THE WHITE PEOPLE.' Perhaps we'll see the national press descend on Paul's neighborhood.
Okay - now I find this all quite LAUGHABLE! For weeks now, black blogs have been discussing Matt Drudge and his attempts to start a race war. As I read the comments on Peoria Chronicle and Peoria Anti-Pundit, I had begun to see BUZZ WORDS that Drudge started. The talk about it happening all across America, comes from day after day of the Drudge report putting up headlines like the ones shown in the photo above (click on photo to enlarge).

Here are just a few of the articles from black blogs discussing Drudge:

Matt Drudge's disgusting race war awareness campaign...
The Drudge Report, Flash Mobs, and Race...
Matt Drudge Using Urban Beach Weekend to Stoke Racial Flames...
Matt Drudge Targets African-American Youth on Drudge Report
Stewart mocks Drudge's "race baiting" story on school bus fight ...

I'm beginning to wonder what the real story is here. The Drudge connection is nothing to be proud of, all it does is cloud our local issue.

Sounds like Drudge and the kids roaming the streets are two sides of the same coin. Probably these problems will not end until someone finds a way to convince us that we all need each other if this country is to survive. Right now our "need" to hate and to blame others is gaining on us

This type of publicity is nothing to pump your fist about Anonymous.

Unfortunately, I am going to have delete your comment for using the "f***ing word.

Emerge -

Could you please list the "buzz words" (yes, I am being serious with this question). Although I did not find the story about Peoria from Drudge or Fox news if this did occur it is news - just as it would be news if it were a group of Mexican's yelling to kill all blacks or white's yelling to kill . . . er, everyone. It's news and it's sad and scarey.

I suggest you google "flash mob" (as I just did) and you will find stories from Toledo (OH), Chicago, Las Vegas, D.C., Deleware, Philly, Atlanta, St. Louis, Indy and well you get the picture. Are there black youth involved in these incidents? Well, according to news reports and videos some of them are black youth. Does that make it racial? No - it makes it a crime. If a group of black youths yelled and threatened people while yelling - "kill white people" . . . is that racial, yep and saying others used "code words" does not change the fact that these things (robbing flash mobs) are occuring and have even been reported by news organizations in the UK http://www.dailysquib.co.uk/world/2813-u-s-flash-mob-robbery-trend-set-to-cross-atlantic.html.

What I find funny is that after reading approx 12 articles on these crimes it was clear that the news reports were not in large part mentioning race at all (let me clarifiy - the main stream media and news organizations - I am sure you can find a blogger who is an idot and was doing so). But - it was your hometown newspaper that made headlines and changed the completion (no pun intended) of the story by putting race in the headline.

Don't preach to the chior for spreading the news that is already out there . . . start preaching to the congregation so that maybe things don't make news.

Just my thoughts -

Will

btw - I am glad your are serious when you are . . .ah . . . engaging in a wonderful, joyious act . . . . nice response :-)

I'm beginning to wonder if C.J. shut down his website because the story has not been confirmed, yet picked up by a "national" blog.

Again, black blogs have been discussing Matt Drudge and his attempts to incite fear in white folks. I suggest you Google black blogs, drudge, race. Thank you.

May 31, 2011 article from Gawker:

Curious about what "urban" teenagers were doing over the holiday weekend, and whether you should feel threatened by them and people who share their complexion? Then be sure to check in with the Drudge Report, which has conveniently rounded up a slew of run-of-the-mill summer crime stories that happen to involve black people and suggestively weaved them into a nationwide race riot.

Read entire article here:

Emerge . .

I will do that, thank you. could you please share with me what "code words are"; swear I am not being funny.

I am not a reader of Drudge but as I said found the story elsewhere. I would also offer that it seems such crimes "flash robs" (as one UK news source call's them) are making news and seem to be occuring with increased frequencey - that concnerns me - irrespective of the ethnicity of those involved as I am sure it concerns you.

I would hope things become solution focused and not finding reasons to shoot the messenger.

Thx -

Will

Holy cow, my little blog on E blogger has over a 1000 hits just this afternoon and some of the comments are really getting crude. I knew something was amiss as a direct link to my blog is on a web site called Free Republic. My blog is repeated word for word there even though the link says; Peoria Pundit it goes straight to my site. Now what?

Mahkno said...

I bet CJ hit a data-connection cap. Most website hosts have them. Unfortunately large volume aggregate sites like Drudge, Fark, Huff Post etc.. have a way of bringing down smaller sights.

I am surprised his small corner of the web even got noticed but there it is...

How about you delete the crude comments?

Good idea--I do think it's a good idea to monitor these inflammatory posts--at least, force them to get their own blogs.

Sharon Crews said...

The story has made it to the PJS now that it is national news.

Emerge Peoria said...

The article in the pjstar is more about the Peoria Chronicle making the Drudgereport. It gives next to no information about the incident?

"Peoria police Sunday confirmed there was an incident Friday night but said they were instructed not to comment on it."

Plain4kps said...

That is the norm for the Peoria Joke Star. Totally damn worthless! If not for you and your fellow bloggers, we would not know what the hell was going on in this city.
Thank you all.

Sharon Crews said...

I understand the possible thought behind not giving these young people the publicity they may or may not be seeking. However, not asking and/or allowing the neighbors and drivers, etc., to report on the incident is not good policy either.

In the end mostly because of blogs in this case, information will no longer be swept under the rug, so the police need to find a way to be up front with the info.

Plain4kps said...

We have a right as citizens to know what danger is in our communities and
to deny us of that right is totally unfair and makes me wonder what other incidents or risk have we not been told or warned about.

Harriet said...

Ollie here (don't ask about the "harriet" name): I am getting racists linking to my blog. Yuck.

I am in agreement that CJ probably shut down his blog because no one could (or would) confirm Paul's story from Friday night. It could also be a web technical issue.

Dennis in Peoria said...

PJS Star just posted updated article, saying that the mob story details were "exaggerated"..that there was a large group of youths, but they were orderly, not yelling about killing whites.

Sharon Crews said...

The latest PJS account provides a bit more information and, I believe, verification that there was intimidating activity by a very large group of young people. The racial comments are not as easily verified. I think the actions are more important than the words.

Anonymous said...

Exaggerated... just what I expected.

I'll bet you the drudge link to the cached blog will remain for a long time, and any updated stories which clarify the initial blog post will be discounted as "political correctness"

In all the stories I have read there is one and only one person who said he heard, “kill all the white people.” It is Paul Wilkinson.
After relentless searching, I found another article with the following statements:
Peoria City Councilwoman Barbara Van Auken said Sunday she is outraged by Wilkinson’s allegations.
Van Auken, who has known Wilkinson for six years, said he’s had a history of “wildly exaggerating” reports, many of them involving race. And police are well aware of it.
This was in the pjstar.
Until we get all the facts, it would be wonderful if we could take a step back and not stir the ugly flames of racism.

Sharon Crews said...

As the story states, someone besides Wilkerson said the kids blocked cars--but were orderly. What does that mean? Another said they were running wildly around yards and porches. Alnother said they were hollering and stopping traffic.

VanAuken said the stories were exaggerated--how would she know? Isn't she the same person who accused Bradley students of disrupting her neighborhood?

I'm sorry but sugarcoating this incident isn't right either. What one person saw or heard isn't going to be the same as what someone else saw or heard--there were 50 or 60 young people all doing something. This kind of harrassment deserves more attention than the police "seem" to have given it. However, they are taking some action now.

General Parker said...

Sharon, how is this sugar coating it? You have several people all giving their accounts of what they saw.

I know Paul Wilkerson. I know Khalid Davis, I also know Kenny Rogers who is a boilermaker like myself and is white. His account was he heard no one use race. He heard the hollering and he saw them running in the yards. He didn't hear the racist rants. Khalid saw what he saw.

Maybe someone thought if they imparted race in this matter, the police would finally show up this time after all the complaints they have made over the years. i don't know, it's just a guess.

What I do know is like I said previously, some people were so hell bent on wanting this to be true that they couldn't wait for corroboration or an investigation, they wanted anyone to come up with an incident and claim that these "thugs" were wild and unruly and committing hate crimes. They are acting just like the very ones they are complaining about.

What gets me is that these are the very people who wrap themselves in the flag and the Constitution but are so willing to forget it, due process and everything else this country was founded on for the satisfaction of their emotions.

Peoria Anti-Pundit said...

I have pulled the nasty comments and stopped comments on my blog. I also posted an apology.

Emerge Peoria said...

It was posted on Peoria Chronicle on Friday that Beth Akeson was working on the issue, trying to find out what happened. The pjstar confirms Chuck Weaver responded as well...

Today I see this comment from BVA:

"Peoria City Councilwoman Barbara Van Auken said Sunday she is outraged by Wilkinson's allegations.

Van Auken, who has known Wilkinson for six years, said he's had a history of "wildly exaggerating" reports, many of them involving race. And police are well aware of it.

"We have some very gullible new council members who were dumb enough to believe him," she said, declining to name names."

Wow, that's harsh "gullible", "dumb". Really?

Being responsonsive to constitutent concerns and they are labled guillible and dumb by an experienced collegue. Unfortunate.

Emerge Peoria said...

If Wilkinson is known by the police for "widly exaggerating" reports "involving race", has he ever been charged with inciting?

If the charges are untrue and the reputation of the city has been damaged, will they seek to press charges against people for inciting race?

It would certainly prove that they are not covering up the issue of race riots as many believe they are.

Mahkno said...

I would be wary of anything either has to say about the other in the long running Van Auken v Wilkinson feud. There is little love lost between either of them.

mazr said...

How "gullible" and "dumb" of a council person to actually react to a constituent.

BVA needs to go.

Mahkno said...

It isn't lost on me that rather than focus on the problem of mob actions, whether there were racist remarks or not, she dives into character assassination.

Emerge Peoria said...

I will be sending the information about the story the Drugereport is running to as many black bloggers as possible.

Makes one wonder how many of the other reports of wild black people he continues to run are half truths.

Is it beer thirty yet? said...

To "Anonymous" above, aka, Barbara Van Auken, were you sober when you made those comments?

Sharon Crews said...

General, I didn't say mean to imply sugarcoating with reference to the words--I I meant to refer to what they reportedly did. That's what I meant by sugarcoating--especially, the use of the word "orderly." I am not, at all, anxious to bring up or even report the racial aspect of this incident. I probably did mislead when I stated that everyone saw and "heard" something different since there were reportedly 50 or 60 kids involved. It's difficult enough to prove what was done--let's work on the actions first.

When all of us work together to find ways to stop these activities--and I'm all for finding ways to help the kids, too--then everyone will know this isn't a "racial" issue. Some are probably sugarcoating and some are exaggerating--neither reaction is helpful. Mostly we need to get to the truth--in order to find a solution.

Also, I think that all of us need to ask or demand for an appropriate response.

Plain4kps said...

It's still my belief that if the Peoria Police Department would of came out when this all started getting out of hand and explained what did happen then we would not be splashed all over everyone's front page and blogs.
They have a responsibility to the citizens of this city to protect and to serve and the only thing we got served was the silent treatment.
What? We are to believe now that everything is settled and resolved.
As Ms. Crews said, "it is not about the words but the actions that took place".
Ms Emerge has a valet point on them not doing their job and not charging this joker with inciting.
I had a private discussing with Ms. Emerge on the subject at hand and told her that I thought that this was a incident intentionally thrown out of proportion by someone with their own personal beef with this city, it's black youths or for his/hers own personal pleasures.
As we all know there is always someone ready to run with the race card.
General, on point.
He played the race card and got the Armadillo. WOW!

Now the worst publicity that can happen just happened. Glen Beck is commenting on the story in Peoria.

Saying that there is a very large group of Af-Am young adults taking over the neighborhood (like they own it), is NOT being a racist. Paul is a kind, non-judgmental person. If he saw this, reported it, I believe it. He usually has his camera. I have talked to him personally in the past regarding the black on black violence, trespassing, and crime in his neighborhood. He has drug dealers living all around him. Now, YOU want to vilify HIM? If not for him and some other stalwart caucasion people in Peoria, this down would have turned into a slum like Detroit MANY years ago. I consider Paul a hero for standing up for his and his neighbors rights. These young people are the SAME young people that cuss out their teachers on a daily basis. Well, with summertime, they need a new audience.

Plain4kps said...

As the song goes "We don't need another hero".
First off,I would think that the majority would agree that this is not the type of hero this city needs or want.
Second, a group of any race of people running around terrorizing a mix group of individuals is not considered a racial act.
If your bud want to be a hero tell him to get up off his Ass, stop fabricating shit and to find a damn outlet for these kids. Oh, and maybe a job for three of the 60 to 70.
If these kids have the ability to get together and talk through text and Facebook to get together in such large groups and be as affecting as they are, then it's not them with the problem it's us.
Why not do the same and stop the crap.
Get a grip.

Anonymous said...

@Plain: these kids are up all night long, sleeping all day...should Paul find them jobs as 3rd shift SECURITY guards? Hard to find a job while lying in BED. Also, why is it Paul's or anyone else's job to FIND jobs for these so-called "youngsters"? I found my own job. It's called, hit the pavement and look for a job, wearing clothes that fit and speak clearly without SLANG. The f-bomb falls out of their mouths so easily that I don't don't who would hire some of these wanna-be thugs. They must like the fact that their Mama's work 2 or 3 jobs to buy them cell phones and $200 shoes, so they can intimidate neighbors and stand around crying, "poor me"....I'm black and EVERYONE OWES ME.....The days of entitlement are OVER.

Plain4kps said...

Lots of hate and resentment. Blogs can be good therapy for some. That's it, blog it out.
See you back here in three comments.
No charge.

Sharon Crews said...

I will hate myself for throwing this comment in--but isn't it time for us all to acknowledge that many "black" children in Peoria are actually "mixed." That means there is, also, a "white" parent responsible for the behavior of his/her children. I thought it was curious that one young man reportedly said he had a "white" grandfather--wouldn't that mean his parent was, also, white?

What I am trying to say in my feeble way is that blaming all black people for the behavior of a few black children just has to stop. So often when black children are involved in bad behavior, I hear someone say something about the responsibility of black ministers. When was the last time, you heard anyone blame a white minister for the criminal behavior of white youth or adults?

While all of this was going on, I had received a phone call from Hedy Elliott-Gardner who wanted me to give her phone number to Emerge. Several days ago, before this Thrust Street incident, Hedy, on her own, had begun calling prominent political figures and business people in Peoria about the growing problem of the unemployed in Peoria.

She had told them all that they need to travel the streets of Peoria as she does to take note of all the people (many young) just roaming neighborhoods.

She has challenged them to recognize that the undereducated and unemployed people of Peoria need the attention of the city--for the sake of these people and for the sake of the city.

District 150 recently refused to honor the agreement between PHA and 150 brokered by Durflinger to allow Hedy to teach GED classes full time at Harrison and Taft--she already does that for free at Proctor. That was her personal effort to help with this growing problem in our city. More was needed; but that would have been a start.

Plain4kps said...

I agree. Thank you for this information.
This is all I am trying to say. We as a community have to take some kind of responsible stance in helping to rectify the situation. We are the adults here. To just let these young men and women go freely about in the manner in which they have for the last 5 years or more ( this didn't just start last week) is the fault of all who have not tried to make a stand for the better in the form of trying to make things available to our youths.

From CJ Summers:

"Hey everyone -- one of my posts got picked up nationally and caused the shared server that hosts my blog to overload. So they deactivated my blog. I'm trying to get it back up and running as soon as I can. Sorry for the inconvenience!"

So, those of you who are suggesting he shut it down... Which brings me to a point. I've read this in other places...why the speculation he shut it down and causing rumor to be spread without the facts from CJ himself....kinda like a lot of comments being made about the incident that started the whole thing.

Also, has there been a reply by the leaders of the black community about Wilkerson's comments? Usually they are pretty quick to respond to racial allegations.

Plain4kps said...

No they are not. If so, then this matter would of been solved long ago. There have been complaints going on about flash mobs for years. The difference, they were called just a lot of misfit kids running in the street causing problems.
Why do you think they went and got the Armadillo, why they recruited Carl Cannon.
We have been complaining about this way to long. The so called leaders of the black community that you speak about why do we need to call on them. This is not their problem along, it's all of ours. Where are the so called leaders of the Caucasian community and the Jewish community and the Asian community and so on and so on.
Wow, still refusing to see this for what it really is.

Plain4kps said...

We had this same thing go down at all the community events of the past years. The Fair, fireworks, Steamboat Days and every other event we try to have and promote our city and our communities.
To be so selfish to think that only one group or people are being affected by it is using tunnel vision and self centered .

I like the anonymous comment that suggested that it's the "stalwart Caucasians" who have kept Peoria from becoming a slum like Detroit. Thank goodness for those good ole "Stalwart Caucasians" doing all they can for our "Af-Am" neighbors. Doggone it, it's actually "mighty white" of the community to put up with these thugs for so long!

I'd like to think having the mirror turned directly back on the bigots and institutional racists in this community will help them understand their role in all this.

However, phrases like "Stalwart Caucasian" and "Af-Am" make me doubt it.

These youngsters have been BEGGING AND KILLING for attention for years now.

Danggit, if only Paul Wilkinson had sent a story to the blogs last year or the year before - maybe we wouldn't have so much blood and chaos in the streets today.
